custom homeA custom home building checklist is a must if you’re in the middle of building the home you want. You have many small details to consider when building your dream home. A checklist will help you go through them all with precision. A custom home building checklist allows you to address any issues that may arise. A custom home building checklist can make it easier to manage the small details when you are not a person who likes to worry about the finer points.

Dawol Homes has compiled a list of things that you should include in your custom home building checklist.

Custom Home Building Checklist

1. Lights, switches, and power outlets

When Dawol Homes work on your new home construction, they will inspect where the power outlets, switches, and lights are located to make sure that they’re well placed. It is possible to make mistakes, but these are fixed before they become a problem in the building of your custom home. Pay attention to where the power outlets are located outside of your home.

You can make notes about the location of switches and lights to help you deal with any problems that may arise. When building your home, think about the outdoor decor you want to use.

2. Shower Head Height

Consider this when you build your custom home in Myrtle Beach: If anyone in your family is taller than 6’8″, the showerhead fitting must be 6’8″. This will ensure that everyone can use the showerhead comfortably at 6’5″.

3. Television Placement

When building your home, it is important to consider the placement of televisions. Dawol Homes can help you locate any location in your home where a TV could be placed and ensure that there are power outlets.

Dawol Homes can provide additional reinforcement to your TV stand by attaching two wooden pieces, 2×10 or 2×12, between your monitor’s studs. These wooden rods will reinforce the existing reinforcement and allow for additional reinforcement by drilling screws in the mounting bracket.

4. Water Heater Placement

Dawol Homes has decades worth of experience in building homes. We know that water heaters installed in the attic can help you free up space in your garage. We also recommend that you consider how much storage space your attic water heaters will occupy. To protect your home against any type of water heater failure in your attic, you will need to make sure that you have the best water line fittings.

You could also consider tankless water heaters if you don’t have a lot of space. These are less expensive, but they can save you money on your energy bills.

5. Attic Storage

We will install decking in the accessible space of your attic. Some builders may not install decking in your attic space, and might even refuse access to your attic space in your final home plan.

If you are looking for accessible attic space, talk to your home builder about custom home plans that include decking installation, an accessible light switch and pull-downs for access to the attic.

6. Shelf Depth

When building your home, you should also consider the shelf depth. Your shelves are standard at a depth between 11-12 inches. Dawol Homes will ask you for your preference in shelf depth before we begin the process of building your shelves. Talk to your builder to increase the shelf depth to 14-15 inches to maximize utility. This allows you to make the most of your storage space.

7. Door Swing Direction

A custom home builder inspects the direction that each door opens to ensure consistency throughout the home. It also prioritizes door hinge usage. Our team will deal with any issues that arise when two doors are open at once on perpendicular walls.

8. Extra Materials

We will provide you with a set of leftover tile, grout, wallpaper, bricks, trim, paint, and grout. This is for future repairs to your custom home. You should catalog the manufacturer and product information of all items once you have received them.
